December 2017 Newsletter
Dear Mums, Dads and Carers,
With most staff now living outside the village, it can be difficult for them to get to Kaleidoscope if there is snow and ice on the roads. We need at least two staff at Breakfast club so there may be a later start. As we must maintain staff to children ratios during the day, we may have to close. We will make the decision as early as we can and will try to contact you to tell you that we will not be open. If we open but the weather deteriorates during the day, we may decide that it is safer to close early and we will contact you. If the school is open, it does not necessarily mean that we will be.
Breakfast Club and the After school club are now very busy. If you do not have a regular booking at these clubs and want to use them, please let us know that you want a place as soon as you can. Likewise, please inform us if you have to cancel a booking. There are limits to how many children we can take at one time and we have had to tell parents that there are no spaces for their children recently. This is something that we have never had to do before and something that we do not like to do but we must follow our legal obligations. In an emergency, we will always try to help if we can.
Pre-school is much quieter this year after two years of being full on some days from the Autumn Term. If the opportunity arises, please let people know that we are here and that we have spaces this year. Anyone is welcome to come and have a look around after phoning for an appointment. If you would like to change or add to your child's pre-school sessions from January, please let us know as soon as possible.
Please can pre-school parents ensure that they have spare nappies/pull-ups in a bag for their child if he/she uses them. Spare clothing is also useful. Please label your child's coats, wellies, gloves and hats. This helps to avoid confusion.
At pre-school, we are currently looking to improve our technology resources. For Early Years, technology includes box play, using torches, cameras, metal detectors, keyboards, kaleidoscopes etc. It would be good if you could save small boxes and kitchen roll tubes for us to be used for box play. We like to have these available at all times and the children can use them in a variety of ways e.g. in the role play area, for construction, making ramps for cars and any other safe way that their imagination takes them! We would also be grateful for donations of batteries as we will be using quite a few of them.
EDF will be here at pre-school on Wednesday, 13th December in the morning to provide a science workshop for the children. The children will have a story, do science with bells and magnets and play musical parcels. This is a free service and we are pleased that EDF is able to provide this experience for the children.
Our Christmas dinner at pre-school will be on Wednesday, 13th December. If you would like your child to have the dinner and they usually have a packed lunch at pre-school, please let us know well in advance. The After school club children will be having their Christmas dinner on Thursday, 14th December. Again, please book this in advance as the limited places for this very popular dinner fill very quickly. The After school club will be making Christmas craft items throughout December.
In order to raise funds to purchase technology equipment for pre-school, we are going to hold a raffle which will be drawn on Friday, 15th December. Prizes will include tickets for Leeds Castle, a pet hamper and a food hamper. We would be grateful for donations of food items for the food hamper which need to be brought into Kaleidoscope by Thursday, 14th December. Please also buy tickets and encourage your family and friends to do so too!
Our last day this term for pre-school, Breakfast and After school clubs is on Monday, 18th December. Pre-school will be having our Christmas Party in the morning and all children are welcome to attend even if this is not their usual session (fees apply). Please let us know if your child is coming in for the extra session if this is not their usual day. A clown will be here to entertain the children. There will be party food afterwards supplied by us at no charge so there will not be a cooked lunch and lunch boxes will not be needed. The morning will end with a visit from Father Christmas at 11.40am and parents are welcome to return early to see their children receiving their present.
We open for the New Year on Monday, 8th January. We will be closed again the week commencing 12th February.
We are fortunate in the village to have a group for parents with babies and toddlers. Aldington Playgroup meets on Thursday mornings from 9am to 11.30am in the Village Hall. It's a chance to chat to other parents and the children can enjoy themed messy play and craft. For further information, visit Facebook/Aldington Playgroup.
